She has previously served as Chair of the Committee on European Integration and Vice Chair of the Committee on Constitutional Reforms in Kosovo. Osmani is married and is the mother of twin daughters. In addition to her mother tongue, she also speaks English, Turkish, Spanish and Serbian.[3]
Activity
Osmani's political career began in her teens, when she was an LDK activist. On 27 August 2009, she was elected Chief of Staff of the then President of the Republic of Kosovo, Fatmir Sejdiu. Osmani has been a member of the Kosovo Assembly from the LDK for three terms, and in the last two terms, she was the most voted woman in Kosovo.
She is known for her contribution to Kosovo's independence, precisely her contribution to the International Court of Justice, where she was at that time part of the Kosovan party in defending the legality of Kosovo's independence, a case that Kosovo had won against Serbia. In this process, Osmani served as Kosovo's representative.[3]
Snap election
Vjosa Osmani was viewed as possible Prime Minister of Kosovo by her party LDK in the 2019 snap parliamentary election. While campaigning for the election, Osmani said that she believes that Kosovan people are ready for a female Prime Minister, and that she is able to fight corruption, as well as promising free market reforms for Kosovo.[6][7]
Awards
Osmani completed her bachelor's degree in Kosovo with a scholarship, which she received from the Ministry of Education, evaluating her as the best student of the Kosovo Law School. At the same time, she was also selected as one of the top five students of the country by all faculties. In 2004, she was awarded a scholarship to complete her master's degree at the University of Pittsburgh. In 2005 she was twice awarded the Excellence For The Future Award by the University of Pittsburgh. In 2009, thanks to the success shown, she had again won a full scholarship to complete her doctoral studies at the same university, where she again focused on the field of law.
She was also honored with the Sheth International Achievement Award by the University of Pittsburgh for her contribution to the human rights field.[3]
