Vessel Drum and Bugle Corps
Vessel Drum and Bugle Corps is a competitive junior drum and bugle corps. Based out of Long Beach, California,[1] and primarily rehearsing in the Inland Empire of Southern California, the unit performed as "City Sound Drum & Bugle Corps" in Drum Corps International (DCI) competitions as an Open Class corps from 2010 to 2014. The group was inactive from 2015 to 2017, but reorganized and returned to competition under its current name for the 2018 season.[2][3]

History
In 2010, the corps added a horn line and color guard to become a full drum and bugle corps under the name "City Sound Drum & Bugle Corps", performing in Drum Corps International (DCI) contests within California.
In November 2012, the corps' drum line was featured on the Disney Channel's Shake It Up.[4]
The corps was a Boy Scouts "Learning for Life" Explorer Post and was awarded the Boy Scouts of America, Learning For Life, Character Education Quality Award for 2013.[5]
In 2013 and 2014, members of the corps were able to receive college credit through California State University Dominguez Hills for marching in the corps for one season.[6][7]
In 2014, the corps traveled out of their home state of California for the first time, competing at the Southwest Corps Connection in Mesa, Arizona.
In May 2015, the corps announced that it would take the year off, since it had difficulty in recruiting a sufficient number of brass players.[8]
In 2017, the corps' parent sponsor, the Los Angeles Youth Arts Organization (LAYAO), merged the corps with the Orange County Independent Ensembles indoor percussion program (OCI), and revived the corps under the new name "Vessel Drum and Bugle Corps".[9]
In January 2018, after three seasons of inactivity, DCI announced that the corps was approved to return to competition under its new name for the 2018 season.[10]
Sponsorship
Vessel Drum and Bugle Corps is sponsored by the Los Angeles Youth Arts Organization (LAYAO), a registered non-profit 501(c)(3) musical organization which has a board of directors, president, and staff assigned to carry out the organization's mission.[11] Both LAYAO's president and the corps director is Nathaniel Lewis.[12][13]
