History

The Watchmen Brass and Percussion Ensemble was founded in April 2013 as a SoundSport team by founding director Raymond Moreno and several high school band directors from the Riverside/Ontario area. During the summer, the 50 member unit performed in exhibition at several DCI shows in Southern California.[2][3]

Following its first season, the organization made the transformation into the Watchmen Drum and Bugle Corps. Following a period of evaluation of the corps' resources, staff, and plans, DCI announced on May 21, 2014, that the Watchmen were one of seven new or re-emerging corps approved for competition during the 2014 summer season.[4]

In keeping to their stated mission of providing local youth a stable and affordable marching experience, the 2014 performance schedule was limited to only five Southern California contests and a few other local appearances over five weekends in June and July.

Sponsorship

The Watchmen Drum and Bugle Corps is sponsored by the Watchmen Arts Association, a registered non-profit 501(c)(3) musical organization which has a Board of Directors, director, and staff assigned to carry out the organization's mission. The corps director is David Becker. The corps has associated with the Boy Scouts Explorers For Life Program and is supported by the Jurupa Unified School District, using Patriot High School's facilities for practice space.[3]
