The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Indiana
As of December 31, 2019, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints reported 45,952 members in 11 stakes, 101 congregations (76 wards and 25 branches), 40 Family History Centers, one mission, and one temple in Indiana.[1]
Stakes are located in Bloomington, Evansville, Fort Wayne, Indianapolis (3), Lafayette, Muncie, New Albany, South Bend and Valparaiso.
History
In 1831, the first missionaries arrived in Indiana and organized congregations.[1]
In 1927, a meetinghouse was built and later dedicated by Heber J. Grant.[1]
The Indianapolis Indiana Temple is the first temple in the state and a groundbreaking ceremony was held September 29, 2012,[2] The temple was dedicated by Henry B. Eyring on August 23, 2015.[3] Officials say it will serve about 30,000 members in Indiana and eastern Illinois.[4]
In 2016, a new 17,000-square-foot meetinghouse for the Columbus’ Fourth Ward was dedicated in Columbus, Indiana.[5]
In 2020, the LDS Church canceled services and other public gatherings indefinitely in response to the coronavirus pandemic.[6]

The Indianapolis Indiana Temple was announced on October 2, 2010 by President Thomas S. Monson.
