List of international cricket five-wicket hauls at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium
The Pallekele International Cricket Stadium is a 35,000 capacity cricket stadium situated in Pallekele, Kandy, Sri Lanka. The stadium was opened on 27 November 2009 and became the 104th Test venue in the world in December 2010.[1][2][3] It was a venue for the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup and 2012 ICC World Twenty20 competitions.
In cricket, a five-wicket haul (also known as a "five-for" or "fifer") refers to a bowler taking five or more wickets in a single innings. This is regarded as a notable achievement.[4] This article details the five-wicket hauls taken on the ground in official Test, One Day International and Twenty20 International matches.[lower-alpha 1]
The first international five-wicket haul on the ground was taken in an ODI match by Mitchell Johnson who took six wickets for the cost of 31 runs (6/31) for Australia against Sri Lanka in 2011.[5] As of November 2020 these remain the best bowling figures on the ground in an ODI. The first bowler to take a five-wicket haul in a Test match on the ground was Pakistan's Junaid Khan, who took 5/70 in 2012 against Sri Lanka in the second Test match played on the ground.[6][7]
Sri Lanka's Ajantha Mendis took the first T20I five-wicket haul on the ground in 2011, taking 6/16. This was the first time that a bowler had taken side wickets in any T20I match.[8]
