Lego Jurassic World (theme)

Lego Jurassic World is a Lego theme based on the same name of the film, licensed from Universal Studios. The theme was first introduced in 2015. The first sets appeared in 2015, to coincide with the release of the first film, Jurassic World. Subsequent sets were released alongside the next film, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. In 2018, it was announced that more sets based on the Jurassic Park/World franchise would be released, including new sets based on Jurassic Park and miniseries, Lego Jurassic World: Legend of Isla Nublar.

Premise

Set 22 years after the events of Jurassic Park, Jurassic World takes place on the same fictional Central American island of Isla Nublar, which is located off the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, where a theme park of cloned dinosaurs has operated for nearly a decade. The park plunges into chaos when a transgenic dinosaur escapes from its enclosure and goes on a rampage.[1]

In the sequel, set on the fictional Central American island of Isla Nublar, off the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, it follows Owen Grady and Claire Dearing as they rescue the remaining dinosaurs before a volcanic eruption destroys the island.

Characters

  • Owen Grady: A Navy veteran and ethologist, and former Velociraptor handler for Jurassic World. Voiced by Ian Hanlin.
  • Claire Dearing: Jurassic World's former operations manager, now a dinosaur-rights activist, who has founded the Dinosaur Protection Group to save Isla Nublar's surviving dinosaurs. Aunt to Zach and Gray Mitchell. Voiced by Britt McKillip.
  • Victor "Vic" Hoskins: The head of InGen's security operations, who wants to use the Velociraptors and the Indominus rex as military animals. Voiced by Alex Zahara.
  • Gray Mitchell: One of Claire's nephews and the younger brother of Zach. Voiced by Ty Simpkins.
  • Zachary "Zach" Mitchell: One of Claire's nephews and the older brother of Gray. Voiced by Nick Robinson.
  • Barry: Owen's assistant who helps care for the raptors. Voiced by Omar Sy.
  • Eli Mills: Lockwood's ambitious assistant who recruits Owen and Claire to rescue the dinosaurs.
  • Franklin Webb: A former IT technician for Jurassic World who is now the Dinosaur Protection Group's systems analyst and hacker.
  • Zia Rodriguez: A former Marine who is now the Dinosaur Protection Group's paleoveterinarian.
  • Gunnar Eversol: An auctioneer host at Lockwood Estate who sells the Isla Nublar dinosaurs for profit
  • Ken Wheatley: A seasoned mercenary who commands the rescue operation on Isla Nublar.
  • Dr. Henry Wu: The former head geneticist of both Jurassic World and the original Jurassic Park. Voiced by Vincent Tong.
  • Simon Masrani: CEO of the Masrani Corporation and the owner of Jurassic World. Voiced by Dhirendra.
  • Maisie Lockwood: Lockwood's young granddaughter and legal ward following her parents' deaths.

Sets

In 2015, The LEGO Group partnered with Universal Studios.[2][3] It was officially announced by The LEGO Group that the six sets based on the Jurassic World film would be released on 1 May 2015.[4][5][6] The six sets[7][8][9] being released were Pteranodon Capture (set number: 75915), Dilophosaurus Ambush (set number: 75916), Raptor Rampage (set number: 75917),[10] T. rex Tracker (set number: 75918), Indominus Rex Breakout (set number: 75919) and Raptor Escape (set number: 75920).[11][12] The next month, it was officially announced by Lego that a video game, Lego Jurassic World was in production and would be released on 12 June 2015. This included Gallimimus Trap (set number: 30320) and a Dr. Wu minifigure as a free gift. Lego also used this license for characters and team packs in the Lego Dimensions toys-to-life video game. Each of the sets featured three core characters, named Owen, Claire and Dr. Henry Wu. The dinosaur figures Pteranodon, Dilophosaurus, Raptors, T. rex and Indominus Rex were also introduced for each of the sets.[lower-alpha 1]

In 2018, it was officially announced that the seven sets based on the Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom film would be released in 1 April 2018.[13][2][14][15] The seven sets[16][17][18][19][20] being released were Pteranodon Chase (set number: 75926), Stygimoloch Breakout (set number: 75927), Blue's Helicopter Pursuit (set number: 75928),[21][22] Carnotaurus Gyrosphere Escape (set number: 75929), Indoraptor Rampage at Lockwood Estate (set number: 75930), Dilophosaurus Outpost Attack (set number: 75931) and T. Rex Transport (set number: 75933). Additional sets were also released as a sub-brand of the Lego Juniors theme,[21][22] Lego Brickheadz theme[23][24] and Duplo theme.[22][25][26] Jurassic Park Velociraptor Chase (set number: 75932) was the first set based on the Jurassic Park film. It consisted of 360 pieces with four minifigures.[27][28] Later in October 2018, the Jurassic World Minifigure Collection was released as an exclusive promo set only available in Toys "R" Us stores[29][30][31] or in the online shop.[32] In addition, the Baby Velociraptor Playpen (set number: 30382) polybag set was released as a promotion.[33][34][35] Each of the sets featured the new characters named Ken, Franklin, Eli, Gunnar, Maisie and Zia. It also featured the additional dinosaur figures Stygimoloch, Carnotaurus, Indoraptor and Dilophosaurus in each of the sets.

In 2019, it was officially announced that more sets based on the miniseries, Lego Jurassic World: Legend of Isla Nublar would be released on 1 July 2019.[36][37][38] The four sets[39][40] being released were Dilophosaurus on the Loose (set number: 75934),[41][42] Baryonyx Face-Off: The Treasure Hunt (set number: 75935),[41][42] Triceratops Rampage (set number: 75937)[41][42] and T. rex vs Dino-Mech Battle (set number: 75938).[41][42] Jurassic Park: T. rex Rampage (set number: 75936)[43][44] was the second set based on the Jurassic Park film. The set consisted of 3120 pieces with six minifigures.[45][46][47][48][49][50] Each of the sets featured the characters Hudson, Allison, Danny[lower-alpha 2] and Sinjin. It also featured the additional dinosaur figures Baryonyx and Triceratops in each of the sets.

In 2020, it was officially announced that more sets would be released on 7 July 2020.[51][52] The four sets being released were Dr. Wu's Lab: Baby Dinosaurs Breakout (set number: 75939), Gallimimus and Pteranodon Breakout (set number: 75940), Indominus rex vs. Ankylosaurus (set number: 75941) and Velociraptor: Biplane Rescue Mission (set number: 75942). Velociraptor: Biplane Rescue Mission (set number: 75942) was a fifth set based on the miniseries, Lego Jurassic World: Legend of Isla Nublar; it consisted of 101 pieces with two minifigures.[lower-alpha 3] It also featured the dinosaur figures Ankylosaurus and Gallimimus in each of the sets.

Shorts and television series

Lego Jurassic World: The Indominus Escape (2016)

Over the course of five days from 3 to 7 October 2016, an untitled five-part animated series based on Jurassic World was released on the YouTube channels of Jurassic World and LEGO.[53][54][55][56][57][58] In October 2016, the series was released as a 24-minute animated film entitled Lego Jurassic World: The Indominus Escape as part of a Jurassic World DVD bundle set, receiving shared billing alongside the 2015 film. The film marks the first time an animated film spin-off of Jurassic Park has been released.[59][60][61] The film is a prequel to Jurassic World, and features most of the primary adult characters on the island (with the exception of Barry and Zara) attempting to capture a hotdog-loving Indominus rex. Zachary Levi, Sendhil Ramamurthy and Fred Tatasciore joined Jake Johnson, Lauren Lapkus, Bryce Dallas Howard and BD Wong as voice actors. The film is directed by Michael D. Black.[62][63]

Lego Jurassic World: Employee Safety Video (2016)

With the home media release of The Indominus Escape, a short film was released, featuring BD Wong, David Gunning, Jake Johnson and Lauren Lapkus reprising their roles from The Indominus Escape. Like The Indominus Escape, the short is set before the events of Jurassic World.[64][60]

Lego Jurassic World: Rescue Blue/Escape the Indoraptor (2018)

In promotion of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Lego produced two short films titled Rescue Blue and Escape the Indoraptor, with a variant featured on YouTube where it was separated into four parts, and at the end of each part the audience was given the option to choose between two different outcomes.[65][66][67][68]

Lego Jurassic World: The Secret Exhibit (2018)

On November 29, 2018, NBC aired a new animated special, Lego Jurassic World: The Secret Exhibit, as a prequel to Jurassic World.[69][70][71][72][73][74] The special received low ratings with 1.8 million viewers.[74] The DVD released on January 19, 2019.[73][75]

Lego Jurassic World: Legend of Isla Nublar (2019)

Lego Jurassic World: Legend of Isla Nublar is a 13-episode animated miniseries based on the Jurassic World films.[76][77][78][79] It premiered in 2019, and features Owen and Claire,[80] who deal with various issues at the Jurassic World theme park, including tourists, escaped dinosaurs, ongoing expansion of the park, and unpredictable weather. In addition, the premise would involve a park saboteur, Dennis Nedry's nephew, searching Isla Nublar in search of a treasure. The series is a prequel to Jurassic World, set three years prior and following the events of Lego Jurassic World: The Secret Exhibit. Lego announced that it would also produce a line of Lego toy sets as a tie-in to the series.[81][82][83]

Lego Jurassic World: Double Trouble (2020)

Lego Jurassic World: Double Trouble is an upcoming two-part CGI-animated television special that acts as a prequel to the 2015 film Jurassic World. The first trailer was released on August 12, 2020. Inspired by the Lego toyline, the special will premiere on Nickelodeon on August 23, 2020.

The special is the third entry in the Jurassic Park/World franchise, and was preceded by the 13-episode miniseries Lego Jurassic World: Legend of Isla Nublar in 2019.[84] It was later released on DVD on December 15, 2020.

Video Games

Lego Jurassic World (2015)

Lego Jurassic World, an action-adventure video game developed by Traveller's Tales and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, was released for eight different game systems on 12 June 2015,[85][86][87][88][89][90][91] coinciding with the film's theatrical release. An OS X port by Feral Interactive followed shortly thereafter, on 23 July 2015.[92][93] The game is based on the series' first four films, and was later released for Android and iOS on 31 March 2016.[94][95][96][97]A Nintendo Switch version was later released on 17 September 2019.[98][99][100][101]

Lego Dimensions (2015)

The crossover toys-to-life game Lego Dimensions[102][103][104][105] developed by Traveller's Tales features content based on the original Jurassic World. A "team pack" includes an additional level that recreates the events of the original film and adds Owen Grady, ACU Trooper and Velociraptor as a playable characters.[106][107][108][109]

Lego Brawls (2019)

The crossover mobile fighting game Lego Brawls developed by RED Games. Lego Brawls was released exclusively for Apple Arcade on 19 September 2019 for iOS devices. It includes Tyrannosaurus Rex, Indominus Rex, Owen Grady and Claire Dearing as playable characters.[110]
