Katimavik is located in suburban Kanata in the Katimavik-Hazeldean neighbourhood. The school opened in 1981 and there have been two expansions, the second in 1984 to accommodate the intermediate students. Katimavik accommodates students from grade 4 to grade 8. Katimavik offers early French immersion programs to 560 students, as well as an English program to over 100 other students. There is also a GLP class (General learning Program), which hosts 16 students. Katimavik feeds into Earl of March Secondary School. Beginning in 2012 and ending in 2014, the school was shrunk from a Kindergarten- Grade 8 Early & Middle French immersion school into an Early French immersion and English (Regular) Grade 4-8 school.
A few of the clubs hosted at Katimavik include magic the gathering club, coding club, K-crew (student council) and the Spirit Committee, in charge of planning and organizing school events such as dances and movie nights. Due to an artificial decrease in the student population many clubs that the school once had are no longer offered.
Currently, the school's regular schedule starts at 8:45 am and ends at 3:15 pm. However, there was a proposal for the 2015/2016 academic year put forward by the OSTA (Ottawa Student Transportation Authority) could have changed the school starting time to 9:15 am.[1]
