Legal basis
The Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Matt Hancock, introduced the law upon announcing that the incidence and transmission of COVID-19 caused by the new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 in the COVID-19 pandemic was of sufficient threat to public health to put in place measures to delay further spread by introducing powers to keep individuals in isolation where public health professionals believed there was reasonable risk.[1]
Provisions
The regulations apply to England only.[1] Arrowe Park Hospital in Merseyside and the Kents Hill Park training and conference centre in Milton Keynes became designated "isolation facilities", with the Hubei province of China (including Wuhan City) declared as an "infected area".[2][3][4][5][6]
Revocation
SI 2020/129 was revoked and replaced on 25 March 2020 by the Coronavirus Act 2020.[7]
