Gardabani Municipality

Gardabani (Georgian: გარდაბნის მუნიციპალიტეტი, Gardabnis Municiṕaliťeťi) is a municipality in Georgia, in the region of Kvemo Kartli. Its main town is Gardabani.

Modern History

Until 1917, the actual municipality was under the Tbilisi Uyezd. In 1921, with the administrative division of the Georgian SSR, the municipality was in the Tbilisi Uyezd but in 1938, the municipality was separated from the Tbilisi Oblast to form the Karaya Rayon. In 1947, the name changed for Gardabani Rayon.

Demographics

According to the Georgian census of 2002, 53,2% of the population is Georgian, 43,72% is Azerbaijani, 0,93% is Armenian, the remaining is composed of Russians, Ossetians and Greeks.

Economy

In 2012, there was 42 populated areas, including one city (Gardabani), 2 "daba" and 39 villages. The urban population was 16200, and in villages was 83500, so 85% lived in villages. The municipality's incomes comes from : Industry (mostly electricity), construction, services, agriculture and public services. The priority for the municipality is the development of agriculture and industry.

The incomes of the population come mostly from agriculture and minor businesses (Shops,...) and public services.
