Günəşli, Khojavend

Günəşli or Norashen (Armenian: Նորաշեն, meaning 'New Village') is a village in the Khojavend District of Azerbaijan. The village had an ethnic Armenian-majority population prior to the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war, and also had an Armenian majority in 1989.[1]

History

During the First Nagorno-Karabakh War, the village was destroyed by Soviet and Azeri forces and the Armenian villagers were forced to flee. The village was captured by the Armenian Army on October 2, 1992. Since the end of the war the village has been rebuilt, and in September 2006 a new school was built.

It was under the de facto control of the self-proclaimed Republic of Artsakh as part of its Hadrut Province until October 20, 2020 when it was captured by the Azerbaijan Army during the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war[2][3]
