Cabarrus College of Health Sciences

Cabarrus College of Health Sciences is a private, not-for-profit college in Concord, North Carolina. The College offers five associate degree and three bachelor's degree programs. Over 500 students enrolled in Cabarrus College degree programs in the 2009-2010 academic year. Associate degree programs offered by the college include: medical assistant, nursing, occupational therapy assistant, surgical technology and a general associate in science degree. Bachelor's degrees are offered in health services leadership and management, medical imaging and nursing (RN to BSN, available online). The College was founded in 1942 by Cabarrus County Hospital to meet the need for registered nurses during World War II.

In 1995 Cabarrus College was accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate degrees. In 1998 the North Carolina General Assembly granted the College the authority to award bachelor's degrees. In 2004, the General Assembly granted the College authority to award advanced degrees in nursing or allied health sciences.

The growth of the College necessitated construction of a new facility in 2004 on the campus of CMC-NorthEast in Concord. Enrollment at the College has more than doubled since 2000, and applications for admission have increased 61% since 2003.
