Afzal Motors

Afzal Motors is a Pakistani automobile manufacturer and joint venture with Daewoo Bus Corporation called Daewoo Pak Motors.[1][2]

History

Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicle Company (TDCV) of Korea, which is a subsidiary of Tata Motors of India, signed agreement with Afzal Motors Private Limited for assembling Korean trucks in Pakistan.[3]

In 2006, trial production of trucks started.[4]

Afzal Motors started new assembly plant in 2007.[5] The plant is located at National Highway. The plant costs around Rs500 million[6][3]

The plant located at National Highway was currently producing Daewoo buses in venture with Daewoo Bus Corporation.[3]

The assembling plant of Afzal Motors in Pakistan was inaugurated by Prime Minister of Pakistan Mr. Shaukat Aziz on 8 January 2007. Afzal Motors is manufacturing a wide range of Daewoo Commercial Vehicles including Daewoo Prime Movers, Daewoo Truck Chassis and Daewoo Dump Trucks.[7][8]

Tata Daewoo and Afzal Motors are in final stage to export Daewoo Trucks assembled in Pakistan to Middle East and Central Asian Stats. Daewoo Trucks are being sold across the globe under the Daewoo and Tata Daewoo as well.[7]

In 2008, Daewoo Bus Corporation (DBC) of Korea, signed agreement with Afzal Motors Private Limited for assembling Daewoo luxury buses in Pakistan.[9]

In 2014, Afzal Motors produced only 10 buses, where as the installed capacity is of 3,000 buses.[10]

In 2017, Afzal Motors plant can only produce Euro I emission standards engine.[11]

In 2017, Afzal Motors showed serious concern on lack of local utilization of locally produced trucks China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) related projects.[12]

In 2016, Afzal Motors launched Chinese heavy duty truck brand “Shacman”.[13]
