Young People's Party UK

The Young People's Party UK is a Georgist political party in the United Kingdom, following the ideology of 19th-century economist Henry George. It was founded in 2012[3] and its leader has been Thomas Hall since March 2016. According to its manifesto, it intends to replace many taxes on the productive economy with a form of land value tax[4] and to replace the social security system with a Citizens Income.[5]

Electoral history

In by-elections

In 2012, Dr Rohen Kapur stood for the party at the Corby by-election[6] and Robin Smith stood for the party at the Croydon North by-election.[7] Neither won and both lost their deposits.

In 2018, Thomas Hall stood for the party at the Lewisham East by-election.[8] He received 18 votes (0.08%) meaning he lost his deposit.

In local council elections

In 2013 Gerard Mark Wadsworth stood for election to the Essex County Council division of Buckhurst Hill and Loughton South, gaining 21 votes (0.5% of the vote).[9]

In 2014 Gerard Mark Wadsworth stood for election to the Epping Forest District Council ward of Buckhurst Hill West, gaining 37 votes (2% of the vote).[10]

In 2016 Gerard Mark Wadsworth stood for election to the Epping Forest District Council ward of Buckhurst Hill West, gaining 46 votes (2.6% of the vote).[11]

In 2019 Thomas Hall stood for election to the Epping Forest District Council ward of Buckhurst Hill West, gaining 51 votes (2% of the vote).[12]

General election 2015

Two candidates stood for the party at the 2015 general election: Mark Wadsworth for the Epping Forest constituency and Dr Rohen Kapur for the Folkestone and Hythe constituency.[13][14] Both lost their deposits.
