History
The school was originally known as Welland Park High School, and later Welland Park Community College. In 2009 the school finished 3rd in the Times Spelling Bee final at Leicester Square, London.
Previously a community school administered by Leicestershire County Council, in August 2011 Welland Park Community College converted to academy status and was renamed Welland Park Academy.
It was formerly a middle school educating pupils aged 11 to 14, however in 2016 Welland Park Academy expanded its age range to 16, thereby becoming a secondary school.
Curriculum
Whilst it caters for pupils aged 11 to 16, it also works with different community groups providing facilities. Subjects offered for Key Stage 3 (KS3) include the core SATs subjects of English, Maths and Science; Modern Foreign Languages (French, German and Spanish); Design subjects including Art, Textiles, Product Design and Food Technology; Humanities including Geography, History and Religious Studies; as well as Computer Science. At GCSE level, students have multiple new options, such as Business Studies.
