History
The station also housed a busy goods depot which was attacked by German aircraft during the Second World War.[1]
The station closed for passengers on 15 September 1958 (concurrently with the branch to Leamington Spa) and was demolished soon after. Only the fast lines of the West Coast Main Line pass through the site (the slow lines having diverted to east via the Northampton Loop through Long Buckby and Northampton).
Accidents and incidents
Two serious derailments occurred south of the station in 1915 and 1951, killing 10 and 15 people respectively.
Future
There has periodically been talk of reopening the station due to its close proximity to Daventry.[2]
A local special interest group based in Northampton, Sustainable Transport Northamptonshire, is lobbying for the station to be reopened as a Daventry Parkway.[3][4].
