History
Both plants were opened by Volkswagen in 1980. For economic reasons, in 1987 production was merged with that of Ford in Argentina and Brazil into Autolatina. When the economic situation improved significantly by 1995, Volkswagen re-founded its plants and in the same year commissioned a new plant in General Pacheco and in 2001 a new plant in Córdoba.[3]
Since 2011, the company has maintained its own chair at the National Technical University in Pacheco with the Ferdinand Porsche Institute.[4]
From 2000 to 2012, former Austrian Chancellor Viktor Klima was President of Volkswagen Argentina.[5]
