History
The Medicine Man, cast in 1899, was exhibited at the 1899 Paris Salon and at the 1900 Paris Exposition Universelle, where it won a silver medal.[2] The statue was purchased by the Association for Public Art (formerly the Fairmount Park Art Association) for $6,000, and dedicated on December 10, 1903. [3]
A reduced edition was produced by the Gorham Foundry.[4] An example cast by the Gruet foundry in Paris is in the Amon Carter Museum.[5]
