Smail Prevljak

Smail Prevljak (Bosnian pronunciation: [smaǐl prěʋʎaːk]; born 10 May 1995) is a Bosnian professional footballer who plays as a forward for Belgian First Division A club Eupen and the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team.

Prevljak started his professional career at RB Leipzig, playing mainly in its reserve team. In 2014, he was loaned to Red Bull Salzburg, who assigned him to Liefering later that year. The following year, he moved to Red Bull Salzburg on a permanent basis. Prevljak was sent on loan to Mattersburg in 2017 and to Eupen in 2020. Later that year, he joined Eupen permanently.

A former youth international for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Prevljak made his senior international debut in 2018.

Club career

Early career

Prevljak started playing football at his hometown club Igman Konjic, before joining RB Leipzig's youth academy in 2013.[2] He made his professional debut playing for RB Leipzig II away at Fortuna Chemnitz on 24 May 2014 at the age of 19.[3] A week later, he scored his first professional goal against FC Eilenburg.[4]

Red Bull Salzburg

Prevljak was loaned to Austrian club Red Bull Salzburg in August 2014.[5] He made his official debut for the team on 9 November against Altach.[6]

In September 2014, Prevljak was assigned to Red Bull Salzburg's feeder club Liefering.[7] On 6 November 2015, he scored his first career hat-trick against FAC.[8]

Prevljak's move to Red Bull Salzburg was made permanent in June 2015.[9] He scored his first goal for the team against Austria Wien on 23 August.[10]

In April 2016, Prevljak suffered a severe knee injury, which was diagnosed as anterior cruciate ligament tear and was sidelined for almost ten months.[11]

In June 2017, he was sent on a season-long loan to Mattersburg.[12]

After a successful loan spell, Prevljak returned to Red Bull Salzburg, with whom he signed a new contract until June 2022.[13] On 16 December 2018, he scored four goals in a high victory over St. Pölten.[14] Prevljak won his first trophy with the club on 1 May 2019, by beating Rapid Wien in Austrian Cup final.[15]

Eupen

In January 2020, he was loaned to Belgian outfit Eupen until the end of season.[16] He scored a goal on his competitive debut for the club against St. Truiden on 8 February.[17]

On 31 August, Prevljak joined Eupen permanently on a three-year deal.[18]

International career

Prevljak was a member of Bosnia and Herzegovina under-21 team under coach Darko Nestorović.[19]

In March 2018, he received his first senior call-up, for friendly games against Bulgaria and Senegal.[20] Prevljak debuted in an away win over former on 23 March.[21]

On 15 November 2020, in 2020–21 UEFA Nations League game against Netherlands, Prevljak scored his first senior international goal.[22]

Personal life

Prevljak married his long-time girlfriend Nejra in March 2017.[23]
