Ronan McCarthy

Ronan McCarthy (born 1973) is an Irish Gaelic football manager and former player. His league and championship career with the Cork senior team lasted six seasons from 1997 to 2002. McCarthy is the current manager of the Cork senior team.[1]

Born in Cork, McCarthy first played Gaelic football at underage levels with the Douglas club. After progressing onto the club's top team, he won a county intermediate championship medal in 1997. During his studies at University College Cork, McCarthy won a Sigerson Cup medal in 1995.

McCarthy made his debut on the inter-county scene when he was selected on the Cork minor team in 1991. He was an unused substitute throughout that years' championship campaign, however, he did win an All-Ireland medal. After being overlooked for the Cork under-21 team, he played one season with the Cork junior team in 1995. McCarthy made his senior debut during the 1997 championship. Over the course of the next six seasons, he won two Munster medals and one National Football League medal. McCarthy played his last game for Cork in August 2002.

In retirement from playing, McCarthy became involved in team management and coaching. As manager of Douglas, he guided the senior team to the championship decider in 2008. In 2016 he guided Carbery Rangers to the county senior championship title.[2] McCarthy also served as a selector and coach with the Cork senior team.

He is principal of Glanmire Community College.[3]
