Robert Bligh

Robert Bligh (c. 1704 - 1778) was an Irish Anglican Dean in the 18th-century.[1]

Bligh was the son of Thomas Bligh (cir 1654 - 28 August 1710) and his wife Elizabeth Naper (died 1737). He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin.[2] Bligh's younger brother was the John Bligh, 1st Earl of Darnley.[3][4]

He was Dean of Elphin from 1768 until his death in 1778.[5]

Family

In 1742 County Meath, he married firstly Catherine (Kitty) Elliott (1714-1755), daughter of Major-General Roger Elliott and his wife Charlotte Elliot, and sister to Major-General Granville Elliott, with no known issue.

0n 18 March 1759 in London, he married secondly Frances Winthrop (1735-), with issue including:

  • Frances Theodosia Bligh (died 22 May 1802), who married Robert Jocelyn, 2nd Earl of Roden
  • Thomas Cherburgh Bligh (died 17 September 1830)
  • Catherine Maria Bligh (died before 1792)
  • Robert Elphin Bligh

Bligh died about 1778
