Rade Krunić

Rade Krunić (Serbian Cyrillic: Раде Крунић, pronounced [râːde krǔːnitɕ]; born 7 October 1993) is a Bosnian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Serie A club Milan and the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team.

Krunić started his professional career at Sutjeska Foča, before joining Donji Srem in 2013. A year later, he moved to Hellas Verona, who immediately loaned him back to Donji Srem. In 2015, he signed with Borac Čačak. Later that year, he switched to Empoli. Krunić was transferred to Milan in 2019.

A former youth international for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Krunić made his senior international debut in 2016, earning 18 caps since.

Club career

Early career

Krunić came through youth setup of his hometown club Sutjeska Foča, which he joined in 2003. He made his professional debut in 2012 at the age of 18.[2] On 20 May, he scored his first professional goal against Proleter Teslić.[3]

In January 2013, he joined Serbian outfit Donji Srem.[4]

In the summer of 2014, he switched to Italian side Hellas Verona, but was instantly sent back on a six-month loan to Donji Srem.[5]

In January 2015, Krunić moved to Borac Čačak.[6]

Empoli

On 1 July 2015, Krunić signed a three-year deal with Empoli.[7] He made his competitive debut for the team against Sassuolo on 4 October.[8] Later that month, he scored his first goal for Empoli in a triumph over Genoa.[9]

In October 2017, Krunić extended his contract until June 2021.[10]

Krunić was an important piece in Empoli's conquest of Serie B title, his first trophy with the club, which was sealed on 28 April 2018 and earned them promotion to Serie A just one season after being relegated. He had an impact of 5 goals and 10 assists.[11]

On 1 December 2018, in his 100th game for the club, he managed to score a goal and provide an assist against SPAL.[12]

Milan

In July 2019, Krunić was transferred to Milan for an undisclosed fee.[13] He made his official debut for the club in a loss to Fiorentina on 29 September.[14] On 22 October 2020, he scored his first goal for Milan in UEFA Europa League game away at Celtic.[15]

International career

Krunić was a member of Bosnia and Herzegovina under-21 team under coach Vlado Jagodić.[16]

In November 2015, he received his first senior call-up, for UEFA Euro 2016 qualifying play-offs against Republic of Ireland,[17] but had to wait until 3 June 2016 to make his debut in a friendly game against Denmark.[18]

On 23 March 2019, in UEFA Euro 2020 qualifier against Armenia, Krunić scored his first senior international goal.[19]

Personal life

On 6 January 2021 he tested positive for COVID-19.[20]
