Panama's national public holidays are:
- January 1 New Year's Day
- January 9 Martyrs' Day, anniversary of the riots over sovereignty in the Canal Zone in 1964.[1]
- Carnaval Tuesday: The Tuesday before Ash Wednesday
- Viernes Santo - Good Friday
- May 1 International Workers' Day - Labour Day - May Day
- July 1 (every 5 years) presidential inauguration
- November 3 Separation Day (from Colombia, 1903).[2]
- November 4 Flag Day -Observed only by Public Agencies and all schools. Not a holiday for the private sector.
- November 5 Colón Day, celebrates the day in 1903 when citizens of Colón stopped the advance of the Colombian army on Panama City.[3]
- November 10 "Primer Grito de Independencia de la Villa de los Santos" celebrating The Gesture of Rufina Alfaro and the uprising in the Villa de los Santos against Spain.
- November 28 Independence Day (from Spain, 1821)
- December 8 Mothers' Day & Feast of the Immaculate Conception[4]
- December 25 Christmas
Fiestas Patrias (National Holidays)
The holidays in November (starting from Separation Day), are called the Fiestas Patrias ("National Holidays").[8]
