Prace lies approximately 13 kilometres (8 mi) south-east of Brno and 200 km (124 mi) south-east of Prague.
The pivotal action in the Battle of Austerlitz was fought over a nearby elevated area. It is usually referred to in English as the Pratzen Heights, after the German name for Prace (which was then part of the Austrian Empire.) The Cairn of Peace in Prace memorializes those killed in the battle.
