Release and promotion

On 29 December 2019, S-X tweeted the words "neither would i", teasing the upcoming release of the song.[2] The song's title, cover art and release date were revealed on 3 January 2020, and the song was made available for pre-order.[3][4] "Neither Would I" was independently released for digital download and streaming the following week on 10 January 2020.[5]

S-X performed "Neither Would I" live during the Sky One television show Soccer AM prior to the song's release, on 4 January 2020.[6]

Critical reception

GRM Daily said, "with a powerful yet futuristic sounding instrumental, S-X layers his own harmonies and melodic style well as he touches on a story between himself and one of his counterparts. S-X's vocal range is emphasised on the high-pitched hook as a flawless and flexible one as he touches both ends of the spectrum throughout the tune".[7] BroadwayWorld said, "with S-X lending his soaring vocals, "neither would i" is a heartfelt track that skilfully pairs electronic elements with organic instrumentation as S-X pours over a failed relationship".[8]

Music video

The song's music video was uploaded to S-X's YouTube channel the day before the song's release, on 9 January 2020. It has received over one million views.[9] The video has a running time of 3 minutes and 12 seconds.[9] The video is co-directed by Troy Roscoe and Danyl Goodall. The video was filmed in Marrakesh, Morocco.[8] Speaking to BroadwayWorld about the music video, S-X explained, "I wanted to shoot the video in Morocco, Marrakech to be precise, because I feel that the city visually and energetically captures the meaning of the song perfectly. It's a place full of love and nice people, yet it has many broken and run down parts. Underneath it all, there is always a sense of unity".[8]
