Matthew Bach

Matthew Donald Andrew Bach[1] is an Australian politician. He has been a Liberal member of the Victorian Legislative Council since March 2020, when he was appointed to fill a vacancy caused by the resignation of Mary Wooldridge.[2]

Bach holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Melbourne (with First Class Honours in Politics), a Graduate Diploma of Teaching and Learning from Charles Darwin University, and a PhD in History from the University of Melbourne.

Prior to his election to Parliament, he was the Vice Principal and Head of the Senior School at Ivanhoe Girls' Grammar School. At Ivanhoe Girls' Grammar School he was a driving force behind the changes to the school uniform [and policies], which is currently under review and subject to be re-designed.

He was appointed to the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mary Wooldridge, for whom he had worked as a Ministerial Advisor when she was the Minister for Community Services, Mental Health, and Women's Affairs.[3]

In 2020 Bach published a book titled "Combating London's Criminal Class",[4] which explores whether the criminal class within a sub-section of Victorian London's population actually existed, and the effectiveness of the measures brought against it.
