Leader of the Opposition (Pakistan)
The Leader of the Opposition (Urdu: قائد حزب اختلاف), is the people's elected politician who, by law, is the leader of the Official Opposition in Pakistan. The Leader of the Opposition also leads the Official Opposition to the National Assembly of Pakistan, the lower house of Parliament of Pakistan. The Leader of the Opposition is normally the leader of the largest party not within the government which is usually the second largest political party in the National Assembly. In established democracies he or she is normally viewed as an alternative Prime Minister. There is also a Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, who is elected / nominated separately by the opposition members of the Senate of Pakistan. The current Leader of the Opposition is Shehbaz Sharif of the Pakistan Muslim League (N) following the 2018 Pakistani general election in which Imran Khan was successful in forming a coalition government.
