Kotabaru Regency

Kotabaru Regency is one of the nine regencies in the Indonesian province of South Kalimantan. It consists of two parts; the smaller but more populated part comprises Laut Island ("Sea Island"), the largest island off the coast of Kalimantan, together with smaller islands nearby; the larger but less populated part consists of districts on the 'mainland' of Kalimantan.

The regency has an area of 9,442.46 km2, and a population at the 2010 Census of 290,142[2] and 319,772 at the 2015 Census; the latest official estimate (for mid 2019) is 342,217.[3] The administrative capital is Kotabaru town at the northern tip of Laut Island. Currently, a bridge to connect Laut Island to Batulicin, mainland Kalimantan is under contrusction.[4][5]

Administrative districts

At the time of the 2010 Census, Kotabaru Regency was divided into twenty districts (kecamatan), but an additional district (Pulau Laut Tanjung Selayar) was added subsequently. The districts are listed below with their areas and their populations at the 2010 Census[6] together with the latest official estimate of population as at mid 2019.[7] The table also includes the number of administrative villages (rural desa and urban kelurahan) in each district, and its post code.
