Location
Keriam is located in the north-eastern part of the district, bordering the South China Sea to the north, as well as the mukim subdivisions of Kiudang and Pekan Tutong to the south and west, and Sengkurong and Pengkalan Batu in Brunei-Muara to the east and south-west respectively.[4]
Administration
Keriam is a mukim subdivision, the second-level administrative division in Brunei. It is one of the eight mukim or subdistricts of Tutong.[1][2] As a mukim, Keriam is headed by a penghulu, and the incumbent is Muhammad Taha bin Abdul Rauf.[3]
The Survey Department further divides Keriam into eight areas of village subdivisions, namely:[4]
- Bukit Panggal
- Ikas
- Keriam
- Kupang
- Luagan Dudok
- Maraburong
- Sinaut
- Sungai Kelugos
However, the Tutong District Office, which de facto administers the mukim and villages in Tutong, only recognises six villages in Keriam, namely Bukit Panggal, Keriam, Kupang, Luagan Dudok, Sinaut and Sungai Kelugos.[1] These villages have their own village heads (Malay: ketua kampung), whom handle administrative matters related to residency and community in respective villages.[3] As Maraburong and Ikas do not have their own heads, the residents in these areas may deal with the chiefs of nearby villages.
