Joey Scouts
Joey Scouts is the first section of Scouts Australia for boys and girls aged 5 to 8. The section is named after a joey, which is a baby Kangaroo. This section is known by other names in other countries, such as Beaver Scouts in the Scout Association in the United Kingdom and in Scouting in Canada, and Keas in Scouting New Zealand.

Between the ages of 8 and not before 8 a joey can move up to cubs but they can stay in joeys if needed until their 9th birthday at which time they must be in cubs. Joey Scouts move up to the Cub Scout pack. Joey Scouts are organized as a "Mob", made up of boys and girls. (A group of kangaroos is called a mob.) The Mob is led by fully trained adult leaders, usually a Joey scout Leader and an Assistant Joey scout Leader along with parent helpers. Joey Scout Leaders are traditionally given the names of Australian native animals or plants such as Brolga, Bilby and Wombat.
Joey Scouts can work to earn the following badges:
- Caring and Sharing Badge
- Buddy Scheme Badge
- Environment Challenge Badge
- Adventure Challenge Badge
Older Joey Scouts can earn the Promise Challenge Badge.[2]
