Personal life

Early years

Jill was born in Tontitown, Arkansas, on May 17, 1991 as the fourth child and the second daughter of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar. She was homeschooled, and she can play piano, violin and harp.

Marriage and family

In November 2013, Jill and her father had traveled to Nepal so that Jill could meet Derick Michael Dillard, a graduate of Oklahoma State University–Stillwater where he was the mascot Pistol Pete. He asked Jill's father's permission to begin courting her, then asked Jill. On March 31, 2014, Jill's engagement to Derick was announced, and on June 21, 2014, they married.[3] Derick graduated with a degree in accounting and worked as a Walmart tax accountant until June 2015,[4] he joined the Cross Church School of Ministry (C3) in 2017 and he is currently enrolled at University of Arkansas School of Law.

Together, the couple have two children: Israel David Dillard (born April 6, 2015) born via emergency C-section after over 70 hours of labor, and Samuel Scott Dillard (born July 8, 2017) born via emergency C-section after 40 hours of labor.[5][6]

In 2015, the Dillard family relocated to Central America to serve as missionaries with S.O.S. Ministries. Ten months later they returned to the United States.[7][8][9]

Career

Books

Jill co-wrote the book Growing Up Duggar: It's All About Relationships, published by Howard Books with her sisters Jana, Jessa and Jinger.[10] It was released on March 4, 2014. The book shares an inside look at what being a Duggar child is like as they talk about their parents' faith and perspectives on life.

Television

Jill began her public life as a member of the family featured in the documentary 14 Children and Pregnant Again (2004), which talks about daily life of the family from the "time they wake up" to the "time they go to sleep". The documentary aired on the Discovery Health Channel. Another documentary, Raising 16 Children was produced on the same channel in 2006, when her sister Johannah was born. This was followed by another feature, On the Road with 16 Children about a family cross-country trip.[11][12][13]

On September 29, 2008, 19 Kids and Counting (formerly 18 Kids and Counting and 17 Kids and Counting) began as a regular series based on the Duggar family.[14] The show's final episode aired May 19, 2015 and was formally cancelled on July 16, 2015 due to her brother Josh's scandals.[15] Another series, Jill & Jessa: Counting On, starring Dillard and her sister Jessa, premiered on December 13, 2015.[16][17] Jill and her family dropped out of the show in 2017.

Certified Professional Midwife (CPM)

On September 15, 2015, Dillard officially became a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) after several years of study and professional apprenticeship.[18] However, her mentor Vanessa Giron's license was rescinded after an error with a patient, and now neither Dillard nor Giron are licensed midwives in the state of Arkansas.[19]

Sexual abuse

In June 2015 on The Kelly File, Dillard identified herself as one of the girls who her oldest brother Joshua Duggar had molested as a teen. Dillard reported the abuse consisted of inappropriate touching while she was asleep, saying she did not know it had occurred until her brother confessed to her parents, and her parents then told her what had occurred. Dillard stated on The Kelly File that the release of the police reports was a "revictimization", and she expressed concern that the police reports detailing her abuse being made public might discourage other families experiencing abuse from seeking help.[20][21][22]
