Hugh Culber
Hugh Culber is a character in the fictional Star Trek franchise. He appears in the television series Star Trek: Discovery. Culber is portrayed by actor Wilson Cruz.

The character is one-half of the first openly gay regular character couple in a Star Trek television series.[1] Within Discovery's narrative, he is the ship's senior medical doctor and partner to its engineer Paul Stamets.
Character portrayal
Despite being murdered by Ash Tyler in one episode Culber returns as a series regular and is tasked with ensuring the mental and physical health of the crew. Various publications described how the character set a precedent in both the Star Trek world and generally in media as a depiction of a gay character.[1][2][3][4]
