Greater Dublin Area Cycle Network

The Greater Dublin Area Cycle Network is a planned cycle network for the Greater Dublin Area.[1] The plan was launched in 2013.[2]

The Irish Government set a target of having one in ten total trips made on bicycle by 2020, and one of the main measures to achieve this target is the development of a safe, comfortable and high-quality cycling network. This led the transport authority of the Greater Dublin Area (GDA) to draft a cycle network plan, which was published December 2013. The plan will see the Greater Dublin Area's existing cycle network increase from 500 km in length to 2,900 km by 2020.

In August 2018, 78 companies and 3rd level education institutions publicly called on the government to build a network of segregated cycle routes in Dublin,[3] with the list of signees including Dublin Chamber of Commerce, Trinity College Dublin, Dalata Hotel Group, Technological University Dublin, Distilled SCH, CBRE Group, Radisson Hotels, Goodbody, Alstom, Siemens Healthineers, Expedia, SIPTU, Vodafone, Intercom, Dublin City University, Google, AXA, Children's Health Ireland, the Irish Cancer Society, Zendesk and Facebook.[4] The public call was joined by other bodies in 2019 including the National Children's Hospital and St. James's Hospital.[5]
