Geneviève Waïte
Geneviève Waïte (13 February 1948 – 18 May 2019) was a South African actress, singer and model.[3] Her best known acting role was the title character in the 1968 film Joanna.[4] As a model, she was photographed for Vogue in 1971 by Richard Avedon.[4] And, in 1974, she recorded her only album as a singer.[4]

Personal life
Waïte first married Matthew Reich on 10 December 1968.[5] Later, Waïte married musician John Phillips of the Mamas & the Papas on 31 January 1972.[4] They had two children, actors Tamerlane Phillips (b. 1971) and Bijou Phillips (b. 1980).[2][4] They divorced in 1985. She later married Norman Buntaine; they later separated.[5][6]

Music
Waïte's 1974 album Romance Is on the Rise was produced by her second husband, John Phillips, formerly of the folk rock group the Mamas & the Papas. A 2011 release of the album on CD includes her cover of the Velvet Underground song "Femme Fatale".[7]
Death
On 18 May 2019, Waïte died in her sleep in Los Angeles, California.[1] Her daughter, Bijou, announced her mother's death several days later.[1]
