Gary Divorty

Peter Gary Divorty (28 January 1966[2]) is an English former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1980s and 1990s. He played at representative level for Great Britain, and at club level for Heworth, Hull FC, Gold Coast-Tweed Giants, Leeds, Halifax, Wakefield Trinity (Heritage № 1122), and York, as a second-row, or loose forward, i.e. number 11 or 12, or 13.

Gary Divorty won caps for Great Britain while at Hull in 1985 against France (2 matches).[1]

Challenge Cup Final appearances

Gary Divorty played as an interchange/substitute, i.e. number 14, and scored a try in Hull FC's 24-28 defeat by Wigan in the 1985 Challenge Cup Final during the 1984–85 season at Wembley Stadium, London on Saturday 4 May 1985, in front of a crowd of 99,801,[3] in what is regarded as the most marvellous cup final in living memory,[4] which Hull narrowly lost after fighting back from 12-28 down at half-time.

Gary Divorty played loose forward, in Hull FC's 29-12 victory over Hull Kingston Rovers in the 1984 Yorkshire County Cup Final during the 1984–85 season at Boothferry Park, Kingston upon Hull, on Saturday 27 October 1984, and was an interchange/substitute in Hull FC's 24-31 defeat by Castleford in the 1986 Yorkshire County Cup Final during the 1986–87 season at Headingley Rugby Stadium, Leeds, on Saturday 11 October 1986.

John Player Special Trophy Final appearances

Gary Divorty played loose forward, in Hull FC's 0-12 defeat by Hull Kingston Rovers in the 1984–85 John Player Special Trophy Final during the 1984–85 season at Boothferry Park, Kingston upon Hull on Saturday 26 January 1985.

Gary Divorty is the son of the rugby league footballer for York Schools, Heworth A.R.L.F.C. (Under-17s), Green Tree ARLFC, York Albion ARLFC, Heworth A.R.L.F.C. and York (A-Team), coach for York Under-11s (1977–78 Challenge Cup final curtain-raiser), Heworth A.R.L.F.C., British Amateur Rugby League Association (BARLA), Great Britain (Youth), Yorkshire (Under-18s), York and North Yorkshire Service Area, New Earswick All Blacks ARLC (Under-15s) and administrator for Heworth A.R.L.F.C. (Committee); Robin Divorty (c.1944 – 2003 (aged 59)), and he is father of the rugby league footballer; Ross Divorty.[5]
