Ga West Municipal District

Ga West Municipal District is one of the twenty-nine districts in Greater Accra Region, Ghana.[3] Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Ga District in 1988, until part of the district was split off to create Ga East District in 2004; thus the remaining original part was renamed as Ga West District. Another part of the district was split off to become the 1st Ga South District on 29 February 2008 (which was later split into two new districts: Weija Gbawe Municipal District (capital: Weija), and the present Ga South Municipal District (capital: Ngleshie Amanfro)); while Ga West was later upgraded to municipal district assembly status during that same year. Then another part of the district in the middle of the area was split off to become Ga Central Municipal District on 2012. And most recently, the normal part of the district has split off to become Ga North Municipal District in 2018. The municipality is located in the western part of Greater Accra Region and has Amasaman as its capital town.
