History

GMA's airing of Successful Story of a Bright Girl, in response to ABS-CBN's successful airing of the Taiwanese drama Meteor Garden, was the first Koreanovela that aired in the Philippines according to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of South Korea. However, it was only with the airing of Endless Love I: Autumn in My Heart in 2003 that paved the way for more Korean dramas in Philippine television.[4]

In 2003, GMA began airing Taiwanese dramas with My MVP Valentine, The Poor Prince, and Lavender. The network was also the first to introduce Korean dramas to the Filipino viewers, starting with Bright Girl, Endless Love: Autumn in My Heart, and Endless Love II: Winter Sonata.

For the past two decades, GMA aired several Asian dramas, including Irene, Stairway to Heaven, Full House, All About Eve, Attic Cat, My Name Is Kim Sam Soon, Sassy Girl: Chun Hyang, Frog Prince, Jewel in the Palace, Love of the Condor Heroes, Love Story in Harvard, A Rosy Life, Jumong, Gokusen, Hana Yori Dango, Couple or Trouble, Hwang Jini, Coffee Prince, Devil Beside Me, The Legend, Witch Yoo Hee, Dalja's Spring, My Husband's Woman, Fated to Love You, One Liter of Tears, Shining Inheritance, Queen Seon Deok, Temptation of Wife, The Baker King, Secret Garden, Dong Yi, Lie to Me, Moon Embracing the Sun, Smile, Dong Hae, The Princess's Man, Empress Ki, Master's Sun, My Love from the Star, Reply 1997, Descendants of the Sun, Strong Girl, Bong-soon, Emperor: Ruler of the Mask, and many more.[5]
