It was recorded in a one-day session, quickly after its Broadway debut, and released one week later by Capitol Records, marking the first time a Streisand album was not released through Columbia. At the time, Streisand was already a successful singer, with her 3 first solo albums charting in the top 10 of Billboard 200.
The album peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 in June 1964.[2] and went to win its composers the Grammy for Best Original Cast Show Album, beating Hello, Dolly!.
