During a renovation in 1959, tombs under the church floor were discovered, dating back to the Bronze Age. They also found coins from the 14th century. Findings indicate that in the 15th century, there was a small stave church measuring about 4.5 by 5 metres (15 ft × 16 ft) on the same site as the present church.[3]
