Zimmermann started his career at the local team FCM Reșița and was bought by Politehnica Timişoara before the 2003/2004 season.
On 22 February 2011 he signed a 2 1⁄2-year contract with Petrolul Ploieşti.
He is a former Romanian U21 international.
