Date and time notation in Belgium

According to the BIN standard (NBN Z 01-002), there are three ways to write a date in Belgium:[1]

  • ddd. dd.mm.yyyy ("ma. 10.09.2000" (NG) - "lun. 10.09.2000" (cf) - "Mo., den 10.09.2000" (DG))
  • dd.mm.yyyy ("10.09.2000" (NG - cf - DG))[2]
  • yyyy-mm-dd ("2000-09-10" (worldwide)) is the ISO 8601.[3][4]

All Belgian weeks begin on Monday at 00:00.

In written language, time is expressed exclusively in the 24-h using a colon to separate hours and minutes (HH:MM). It is written: 09:09/21:21 (NG - cf - DG) - 09.09 u./21.21 u. (NG) - 09h09/21h21 (cf) - 09.09 U./21.21 U. (DG).
