DCRail
DCRail (DCR), legal name Devon & Cornwall Railways Limited,[1] is a British freight operating company, active from 2011. A private limited company, it receives financial support from Cappagh Contractors Construction (London) Limited.[2]
History
Until 2017,[3] the company was a subsidiary of British American Railway Services,[4] itself owned by Iowa Pacific Holdings (IPH)[5] which had also purchased the Dartmoor Railway and Weardale Railway in 2008.[6]
Operations
DCR planned to operate passenger services between Okehampton and Exeter St Davids from May 2010, purchasing Mark 2 carriages and Driving Brake Standard Opens, but this did not happen.[7][8][9]
In 2010 the business of Hanson Traction was purchased, along with six locomotives.[10][11] The Office of Rail Regulation granted the company a freight licence in December 2010[12] and in May 2011, DCR commenced operating freight services.[13][14]
Operations came under new ownership from November 2017, and with the Washwood Heath depot needing to be vacated for High Speed 2 construction works, RMS Locotec, which owned the entire fleet of 12 locomotives, put them up for sale.[15] Operations are continuing with hired resources.
Fleet
In November 2017, the RMS Locotec fleet, owned by DCR's parent company, comprised.[15]
- Class 31: 31190, 31452, 31454, 31468, 31601, 31602
- Class 56: 56091, 56103, 56128, 56303, 56311, 56312
All locomotives were put up for sale in 2017, with 56091 and 56103 obtained by DCR from RMS Locotec. The remaining class 56 locomotives were sold to UK Rail Leasing.[16]
In March 2019 DCR acquired four Class 60 locomotives from DB Cargo UK.[17] These were overhauled by DB Cargo at Toton TMD with 60046 the first to enter service in November 2019.[18] 60028 and 60055 joined the fleet in December 2019 and 60029 during 2020, 60028 is in the same aquamarine blue and white livery as Cappagh's road vehicles.[19]
