Cyrus S. Poonawalla
Cyrus S. Poonawalla (born in 1941), also known as the "vaccine king of India",[2][3][4][5] is an Indian Parsi businessman, and the chairman of Poonawalla Group, which includes Serum Institute of India, the Indian biotech company that manufactures paediatric vaccines.[6][7]

Family
Cyrus Poonawalla was born in a Parsi family. His father was a horse breeder. He was married to Villoo Poonawalla, who died in 2010.[8][9][10] They have a son, Adar, who currently works as the CEO of Serum Institute of India.[11]
Awards
- He was awarded the Padma Shri by Hon’ble President of India, in 2005.[12]
- He was awarded the Ernst & Young "Entrepreneur of the Year 2007” in the category of Healthcare & Life Sciences on 20 November 2007.[13]
- He was awarded the Ernst & Young "Entrepreneur of the Year 2014" on 5 February 2015.[13]
- He was awarded an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Humane Letters by The University of Massachusetts Medical School on 3 June 2018.[14][15][16]
- He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Science by the University of Oxford on 26 June 2019.[17][18]
Philanthropy
In May 2019, it was reported that Poonawalla, in partnership with Naum Koen, had proposed supplying Ukraine with 100 thousand doses of the measles vaccine for free vaccination.[19][20]
