Conservatives Abroad has members and branches across the world, including Europe, Asia, Africa, the Americas, and Australasia. While some countries have one national Conservatives Abroad Branch, some countries are represented by a number of difference branches based in different areas, particularly when a country is large and Conservative expatriates are spread out such as Australia, France, Spain and the USA.
History
Many overseas Conservative organisations have been active since the 1970s, however Conservatives Abroad was not formally created until 1986. The perspective of the organisation is that it exists as a political discussion forum, to keep Conservative supporters who are temporarily or permanently living abroad in touch with domestic politics in Britain and Europe, to campaign for the votes of the British expatriate community, and increase the number of overseas registered voters in those communities.
Conservatives Abroad also serves its members' interests by raising issues and concerns facing Britons living overseas with politicians,[1] and by lobbying to reform overseas voting laws.[2] While the party leader is worldwide president of Conservatives Abroad, the individual branches are represented and governed by a branch representative.
Branches
Conservatives Abroad operates as a branch system. Originally it operated 35 active branches operating in 21 countries around the world, however this figure has since grown.[3]
