Club career
Wigan Athletic
Lang joined Wigan Athletic in 2013, after progressing through the Liverpool youth ranks.[3] On 7 May 2017 he was an unused substitute in a 1–1 home draw with Leeds United in the last game of the EFL Championship season, with Wigan already relegated.[4] He made his debut on 8 August 2017 in an EFL Cup first round tie against Blackpool, which resulted in a 2–1 home victory for the Latics; he came on in the 65th minute for Christopher Merrie.[5]
Lang made his league debut for Wigan on 24 August 2019, as a 59th-minute substitute for Jamal Lowe in a 3–1 loss at Queens Park Rangers in the Championship.[6] He scored his first goal for the club in a 3-3 draw with Rochdale on 16 January 2021.[7]
Morecambe (loan)
On 31 August 2017, Lang signed for EFL League Two side Morecambe on a season-long loan.[8] He scored his first goal on 9 December in a 2–0 home win over Coventry City within a minute of replacing Adam Campbell, but was himself substituted injured before the end of the match.[9] He was named the league's Young Player of the Month with five goals in as many games, including two in a 4–3 win over Yeovil Town at the Globe Arena.[10]
Oldham Athletic (loan)
On 14 August 2018, Lang joined League Two side Oldham Athletic on loan until January 2019,[11] subsequently extended until the end of the season.[12] He scored the winning goal in the FA Cup Third Round tie against Premier League club Fulham at Craven Cottage on 6 January 2019.[13] He totalled 50 appearances for the team from Boundary Park over the season and scored 16 goals, including both of a 2–0 home win over Tranmere Rovers on 2 April that ended the opponents' seven-game winning streak.[14]
Shrewsbury Town (loan)
On 2 September, he joined EFL League One side Shrewsbury Town on a season-long loan.[15] Fifteen days later, on his second appearance, he scored the winner in a 4–3 home victory over Southend United.[16] In October 2019 he underwent a foot operation and was ruled out for three months.[17]
Motherwell (loan)
On 29 July 2020, Lang signed for Motherwell on a one-year loan. [18] He made his debut on 3 August 2020, as a substitute away to Ross County, however he was red carded late on as Motherwell lost 1–0.[19] On 6 January 2021, Lang was recalled from this loan spell by his parent club Wigan Athletic.[20]
