Build a Problem

Build a Problem is the debut studio album by English singer-songwriter Dodie, set to be released on 5 March 2021.[1] The album was preceded by five singles: "Guiltless", "Boys Like You", "Cool Girl", "Rainbow", and "Hate Myself".

Background

Dodie has been releasing original songs on her YouTube channel since 2011, and has released three extended plays of original music; Intertwined in 2016, You in 2017, and Human in 2019. Dodie first announced that she was working on her first full album in a video on February 7, 2019.[2]

The standard edition of Build a Problem consists of mostly unheard material except for "When", "Rainbow", and "Cool Girl" which were uploaded to her YouTube channel in 2016, 2018, and 2020 respectively. "When" also appeared as a live acoustic version on her 2016 EP Intertwined.

The deluxe edition bonus tracks consist of a number of song demos released to Dodie's YouTube channel during the COVID-19 pandemic in two sessions called ALOSIA (A Lot of Songs In April/August).[3]

The album was set to be released earlier, but was pushed back due to the aforementioned pandemic.

Promotion

"Guitless" was released as the album's first single in May 2019, while "Boys Like You" followed in September 2019. "Cool Girl" was released as the album's third single on October 19 2020, along with the announcement of the album. "Rainbow" was released as the fourth single from the album on 11 December 2020.[4]

In the weeks leading up to the album's announcement, dodie released a number of videos to her vlog YouTube channel "doddlevloggle" in which she knitted one letter of the album title per video.
