Billboard Year-End Hot 100 singles of 1997
This is a list of Billboard magazine's Top Hot 100 songs of 1997.[1]
Elton John was 50 years old when his double-sided single topped the chart, which was "Something About The Way You Look Tonight" and the 1997 remake of "Candle In The Wind", although it only debuted in October 1997 and was also #1 for two weeks in the 1998 calendar year.
Jewel's "Foolish Games / You Were Meant For Me" was the second most popular single of the year, outperforming many number one singles. It only reached number two for two weeks, but spent twenty-eight consecutive weeks in the top ten (then the longest running top ten single of all-time) and 65 weeks on the chart (then the longest run in history). It is also placed higher than both of the songs that prevented it from topping the Hot 100.
Although it wasn't dethroned until November 1996 and spent 60 total weeks on the chart, "Macarena" by Los Del Rio, which topped the 1996 year-end chart, is only ranked #82.
Amber's "This Is Your Night" despite peaking in the 1997 calendar year, and being in the 1996 installment, is not displayed in the 1997 installment.
