Technical details

In 1996, 10 YDM-4 class locos of India were converted from hood unit to dual cab and exported to Bangladesh as 2800 series.[10] They are 1,400 hp locos. Their model is DL535A/RSD-30 and Indian Railway class is YDM-4BR. Their wheel arrangement is Co-Co. The prime mover is 6-cylinder ALCO 251B-6. They have much similar specifications to Class 2300 and Class 2400 locos.

Classification and numbering

The class name or specification for class 2800 locos is "MED-14". Here, M = Meter-gauge, E = Diesel-electric, D = DLW and 14 = 14 * 100 = 1400 hp. They are numbered from 2801 to 2810.

Usage

Class 2800 locos are only used in passenger trains. Among the passenger trains, these locos are usually used in local and mail/express trains. Previously these locos were used in inter-city trains like Jamuna Express and Egaroshindhur Provati/Godhuli Express, but currently are not used on any inter-city trains at all.
