Concept
The Han was preceded by the E-SEED GT concept, presented at the 2019 Shanghai Auto Show. The concept featured gullwing doors, an all-wheel drive layout, and a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) time of less than 4 seconds.[1]

Production model
The first pictures of a production model named Han were released by BYD in January 2020.
Han DM
The Han DM is the PHEV hybrid version of the Han sedan. The BYD Han DM is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle equipped with a 22 kWh battery delivering a range of 100 km (63 miles) rated by NEDC. Just like the regular Han sedan, the Han DM is developed on the DM3 platform, producing 183 kW (245 hp) from the electric motor, and 143 kW (192 hp) from the combustion engine. The BYD Han DM all-wheel-drive accelerates from 0 to 100 km/hr in 4.7 sec seconds. Based on the NEDC driving cycle, the combined fuel consumption of the 2020 BYD Han DM all-wheel-drive is 2 L/km (3.2 L/100 mile). The fuel consumption of the combustion engine from the Han DM is 5.90 L/100km (2.49 gal/100mi).[2]

Han EV
The Han EV is the pure electric version of the Han sedan. The base electric model is RMB 229,800 ($32,800). The all-wheel drive, 363 kW (487 hp) performance variant costs RMB 279,500 ($40,000).[3]

The BYD Han utilizes a kind of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery dubbed the "blade battery" by the manufacturer. This type of battery takes less space than a conventional LFP battery of the same capacity. The manufacturer also emphasized the battery's safety even in case of damage, and showed the results of a test in which the battery was pierced with a nail while an uncooked egg was placed on top of it. The battery's temperature remained low even when it was pierced with a nail, and the egg remained uncooked.[4]
Performance
The all-wheel drive performance variant accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (from 0 to 62 mph) in 3.9 seconds.[5]
