Aure Church

Aure Church (Norwegian: Aure kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Aure Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is located in the village of Aure. It is the church for the Aure parish which is part of the Ytre Nordmøre prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Møre. The white, wooden church was built in a cruciform style in 1924 by the architect Nils Ryjord. The church seats about 800 people.[1][2]

History

The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1432.[3] A medieval stave church existed on the site until 1725 when it was torn down and replaced with a new church on the same site. This new church was a timber-framed, cruciform design and it existed until 21 January 1923 when it burned down after being struck by lightning. The present church was built in 1924 to replace the previous church and it was consecrated on 24 October 1924.[3][4]
