AIMS Games
The AIMS Games (Association of Intermediate and Middle Schools) are an annual sporting event held in Tauranga, New Zealand. The tournament attracted 166 schools in 2012,[1] making it the biggest sporting event for 11-13 year olds in New Zealand.
In 2016 the event provided $3 million to the local economy. [2] In 2019, the event returned a record-breaking $6.5m.[3]
History
The event began in 2004[5] and since has gained publicity as the pinnacle of New Zealand youth sport. The first games included 14 sports and 17 schools. Since then Indoor Bowls was added in 2011 and Rugby league in 2012 and has attracted 166 schools from New Zealand and across the world.[1]
